I’m not talking about the usual party scene at the Ocean Deck, either. A trip to Daytona is not complete without at least one cold one at the Ocean Deck, where the elite meet to cool off in the ocean breeze after a long day—or night—at Daytona International Speedway. Sadly, since the Coke Zero 400 went so long, it was not a complete trip to Daytona for ol’ SCOOP. A 90-minute rain delay and a 20-minute red flag to clean all the pieces/parts of crashed stock cars combined to remove this particular item from the to-do list.

David Reutimann waited more than 13 months to remove an insignificant little punctuation mark from his NASCAR Sprint Cup Series career.

Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there, including mine. SCOOP Sr. and I spent the weekend in the bright lights of Brooklyn...Michigan! Thanks to all the dads for all they give to us sons and daughters! Last week, it was Pocono where Denny Hamlin ran all over the rest of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series field. This week, he moved west and picked right up where he left off. Hamlin just flat laid waste to the best of NASCAR at Michigan, leading 162 of the 200 laps and pretty much racing the rest of the pack right off the track.

Jimmie Johnson had been really quiet for the month of May and most of June. As with kids, silence is not necessarily a good thing, and the fact that JJ won for the first time on a road course is not a good thing if you're driving one of the other 42 cars in the field every week.

A week after going slightly bonkers with the bumpers, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series cars crossed the country and lined up at New Hampshire Motor Speedway with expectations of more payback in their minds. For 270 of the 301 laps, those expectations went unmet...but the last 31 laps were kind of like Infineon...without the right turns. It all boiled down to the final few laps between Kurt Busch and Jimmie Johnson, and Johnson won the battle. Emphatically, to be sure.
